What are the key differences Between the DREAM Act and Deferred Action?

By 1LAW

The core difference between The DREAM Act and Deferred Action is that Deferred Action does not allow lawful status and the Dream Act would.

Deferred Action is ONLY a momentary reprieve from deportation, which would last two years, with an option for renewal.

Like The Dream Act, recipients of Deferred Action are allowed to get an employment authorization during those two years, and allowed to apply for a driver’s licenses. The Dream Act on the other hand, would provide potential Dreamers with a green card, which would after a period of time, assist them toward U.S. citizenship through naturalization.
