Appeal Bond – If you appeal a decision, you need to pay the court the amount of court costs and damages to the other party. This is paid in case the appeal is unsuccessful.
Bench Warrant – When a judge issues papers for the arrest of someone. The “bench” refers to the judge.
Conditional Discharge – When a person can do certain court issued conditions instead of serving a prison term.
Legal Separation – When two people decide to live separately (divorce), the court issues an order outlining the terms of the separation.
Arraignment – This happens when a person makes their first court appearance after committing a crime. The person accused of the crime enters their plea and the judge advises them of his or her rights.
