A new phenomenon is on the rise in relation to workers compensation claims and cases — repetitive strain injury or disorder (commonly known as RSD). RSDs account for approximately 60% of all job-related injuries according to recent data. Even more stunning is that approximately 1 in 8 American workers has been diagnosed with some injury related to repetitive strain disorder.
RSD knows no limits when it comes to occupation. The most commonly affected workers who would likely suffer from this type of occupational injury are those who spend most of their days behind a computer or in a fixed position either sitting or standing (ie assembly line workers, telephone receptionists, painters). The physical stress on the human body created by certain professions does not excuse employers from their responsibilities to create safe working conditions and ensure the health and safety of their employees. An example of a solution would be the purchase of headsets for telephone operators so the repetitive motion of placing the phone on the shoulder and securing it with the head is eliminated and possible injury to the neck and shoulder are avoided.
If you have suffered an injury at work or believe you are suffering from repetitive strain injuries related to your employment, make sure to seek legal advice from 1LAW to ensure your rights are protected after consulting with your physician.
